Spent the past 2 days with my friend Kerry on vacation 30 miles from our house in downtown Chicago. Another wonder of my magical health insurance...I was able to buy a hotel voucher for $65 that gave us an overnight stay and breakfast for 2 at the Renaissance Hotel right in the heart of the city (about a $475 value!). Here was the view from our hotel room of the Chicago River. Sweet.
We did so much in the time we were there:
- Ate breakfast at Lou Mitchell's (thanks for the fabulous recommendation, Jon Ferguson). Any restaurant that greets you at the door with a basket of fresh donut holes is a winner in my book!
- Saw "Jersey Boys," the Broadway musical chronicling Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (fabulous!).
- Sat on the lawn in Millennium Park to listen to the free Grant Park Orchestra Concert.
- Walked Michigan Avenue and of course got dessert at The Cheesecake Factory.
- Watched fireworks at Navy Pier.
- Rode our bikes along the shore of Lake Michigan and through Lincoln Park.
- Visited the Lincoln Park Zoo.
The closing lines of my journal last night: "I just love being in the city. Maybe I shouldn't give up on my dream of living here someday. Maybe."
