We have exciting news here at Community Christian Church! This week Zondervan will release a brand new book written by our own Dave Ferguson, Jon Ferguson, and Eric Bramlett. It's called THE BIG IDEA: focus the message, multiply the impact. I had the chance to read the transcript before it went to print and it's REALLY, REALLY GOOD! I'm so proud of my three friends, but even more I'm excited about the potential this book has to help churches and further the Jesus mission.
See, I'm a big fan of THE BIG IDEA. If you don't know much about it, check out this previous post to get a big picture view. What excites me most about THE BIG IDEA is how it naturally creates teachable moments for the family. Here at CCC, the entire family experiences one BIG IDEA each weekend. Hopefully this alignment increases the chances of families having spiritual conversations at home. THE BIG IDEA sets parents up for success as they take ownership for the spiritual development of their children.
Take this one example. A couple weeks ago I received this picture from a family at our Montgomery Campus. Can you guess what this Play-Doh creation is? Yep, it's the story of the paralytic man whose four friends lowered him down through the roof of a house so that he could reach Jesus and be healed. That weekend kids, adults, and students all heard this story as they learned about THE BIG IDEA. On Monday when Kerry and her 8-year-old daughter McKenzie were playing with Play-Doh, McKenzie wanted to make a house with four guys lowering their friend down through a hole in the roof. What a great moment for Kerry to reinforce the lesson taught that weekend! And chances are she felt equipped to do so since she learned about the same story in the adult service.
So if you would like to increase the impact of your weekends, order a copy of THE BIG IDEA and learn from the journey we've been on here at CCC.
Just finished the book - there was some good stuff in there! A few weeks ago I told my boss, the children's pastor, that it was on my 'to read' list. She ordered a copy for me and one for herself too.
